If you need to ever get me a gift (not that I’m asking anyone for presents here), you can’t go wrong with a clamp. A clamp is my equivalent of getting a 10-year-old a Storm Trooper. It’ll never be the sexiest present, but you can always use another one.

A friend asked for the parts list to the pot racks I put together awhile back. These pot racks couldn’t be simpler to make. It’s basically connecting a few pipes together and screwing it to the wall. The hardest part is making S-Hooks. Off-the-shelf would work fine, but I’m weird, I think the handmade hooks look better.

2 - 3/4″ galvanized flanges

2 - 3/4″ 90 degree galvanized elbows

2 - 3/4″ galvanized close nipple

1 - 3/4″ galvanized pipe, the length will be roughly the length of the pot rack, I used 12″ and 24″

I also made some S-hooks. Off-the-shelf S-hooks should do the job, but I liked the handmade look. I used 1/8″ steel rod stock

I also polished the pipes with steel wool and then waxed them. I’ve done this every couple of years, keeps it looking shiny.

We launched Design Showcase, with the intention of giving a bunch of independent designers a really good soapbox from which to pitch their work. For the lucky finalists, we also wanted to give them even more exposure and see if we could help to boost their careers to a whole new level.

This is really an incredible (and generous) opportunity for independent designers. They are going to be posting 30 different designs from August 30 - September 17.

Today’s speaker was Rachel Sussman, a photographer who is photographing the oldest living things in the world. We’re talking 2,000 plus years here. Really interesting stuff. The Discovery Channel or National Geographic should be jumping through hoops to make this a show.

And then on my way from the talk to the subway, I passed Gleason’s Gym. Gleason’s is one of the stops on the Key to the City art project, a cool summer event. I had to pass some tough looking people to get to the locker. Those boxers are no joke.

All in all, a full morning.

I just got myself a new 1″ Packard Round Nose Scraper. I got to use a chisel just like this at MAD and fell in love.

I’m such a lathe nerd.

Thanks to everybody who made it out, I had a blast and hope you did too. I also got to use my favorite Simpsons line on the viewers, “I want to see goggles people!”

Last Laser Monster Mirror post, I swear. Finally finished the Laser Monster Mirror, and overall I’m very happy with the results (granted I already have a bunch of tweaks I want to make to the design).
