Stacked Lamination Experiments

MAD Museum In the Studios

I took part in an open studio at the Museum of Arts and Design, demonstrating turned objects created using stacked lamination techniques. Turning blanks were initially created from glued up CNC'd parts. Most of the material was reclaimed or scrap.

"Watch artist Ben Light as he creates table lamps combining the method of stack lamination with the latest digital fabrication techniques. Visitors will see Light transform the most basic of materials—wood, on a large lathe to produce lamps that are both functional and sculptural. Organized in conjunction with the exhibition Wendell Castle Remastered, Light explores the technique of stack lamination that was pioneered by Castle in the 1960s and continues in his tradition of seeing furniture as sculpture."
