Oak?, lamp hardware, 17" x 7"
2009
My parents live on a man-made lake, originally used for ice harvesting. The lake had to be temporarily drained (some sort of algae issue), revealing long forgotten stumps and sunken logs. I was able to get my hands on a few of those logs and turn some lamps. After being submerged for more than a century, the wood has become gray and full of character. It also makes identifying the species tough, I'm guessing oak with a hint of lake dirt.
The lamp is finished with tung oil and wax.
