I went to the Cupcake Decorating Championship last night, part of Ignite NYC. It was a lot of fun, people came up with some great stuff. I went with a My Name is Earl cupcake, mostly because I had a circuit board that says “Hi, my name is Earl.” I think I ripped it out of a magazine or something.

So this simple box project I posted has been making the rounds lately (here and here, for example). And I have to say, I was thinking pretty highly of myself for a bit there. That is until I read some of the comments:

Thanks Pizza_Guy, I needed to be taken down a peg.

This guy built a jet pack, and the first two people he sent up in it were his wife and his son.

This is my favorite part:

I can’t think of a better secret,” he said, but added that it was not a hard one to keep. “Basically, for my whole life I’ve had a jetpack in the garage,” said Harrison, now 16, with a shrug, “so it’s just one of those things you don’t talk about.”

Awesome.

I think everyone should have their own logo.

When I finally came up with one, I bought a rubber stamp at the aptly named rubberstamps.net. It cost me about $17, and I’ve been stamping ever since.

Next up, a branding iron.

My sister asked me to make 60 rubber origami birds for her wedding. She used them as place settings. I’ve never made more than 4 of anything before, so I figured I’d give mass production a shot.

Aside from breathing Plasti Dip fumes for two weeks, it went pretty well.

I saw this wall on the corner of 53rd St and 2nd Ave.  I believe the wood is teak and the cream blocks light up.  Very cool effect.

I saw the Illusionist this weekend (saw the Incredible Hulk that day too), pretty good flick. But I couldn’t get over how cool the locket the Great Eisenheim designed. Why don’t blueprints look like this anymore?

This architect basically turned a family’s apartment into the Goonies.

Amazing job.

I start a lot of projects. I finish very few of those projects. Hopefully the act of collecting them will give me a good kick in the pants in completing some.

I’ll post ideas I’m working on, designers I like, designers I want to rip off (tribute), that kind of stuff.
