D.A.R.T.TH.
July 2nd, 2008Drawing Artistic Robot Two THousand.
My office had an art show, the theme was “Nerd” my entry was D.A.R.T.TH. Basically, a Silo cup with 3 Sharpies hot glued to it (it also has some sweet Darth Vader sound effects I ripped out of a magazine ad).
Everything that it draws looks like a gaint spirograph though.
Frank Pollaro
July 1st, 2008A few months back, I went to a gallery showing Frank Pollaro’s furniture. My jaw dropped the second I walked in. His work is incredible, truley awe inspiring. What he does with inlay is incredible. On top of that, he’s a really nice guy.
Do yourself a favor and check out this, this, this, and this.
Ed Norton Weekend
July 1st, 2008I saw the Illusionist this weekend (saw the Incredible Hulk that day too), pretty good flick. But I couldn’t get over how cool the locket the Great Eisenheim designed. Why don’t blueprints look like this anymore?
The Great Glass Lamp Shade part 2
June 20th, 2008Take 2 on the glass lamp shade.
This time I tried smaller sections of glass. That means a lot more cutting and a lot more soldering, but I really like the look. It reminds me of subway tiles. Anyway, it sure beats the gunk shade.
I ran out of glass, so I fear this shade will be in a holding pattern for awhile.

June 17th, 2008I entered the Get Lit lighting competition held by Tree Studios in Chicago. I didn’t get in, but after seeing the winners I can’t feel too bad about it. Some of them are incredible.
License Plate Frames
June 17th, 2008Hey, I actually finished something!
Granted, it’s a pretty simple project, simple ply-wood frames, but finished is finished.
I still have the licence plate from my first car (I miss you The Express) and recently picked up an old New York plate at a flea market in Chelsea. I thought it would look cool to frame them together, show off my old home state and my new one. You got to love the old plates, the new ones look kind of tacky.
The Great Glass Lamp Shade part 1
June 14th, 2008I make a lot of lamps, but I always have a hard time picking out the right shade. Usually, the only shades you buy are crap. So I decided to learn how to make my own. I got my hands on some how to DVD’s on stained glass making. Glass cutting aint easy folks, so I decided to go simple: clear glass rectangles in a cylinder shape.
The glass cutting went ok, but the soldering was a mess. I used plumber’s flux, which is some messy stuff. It also left a lot of gunk on the glass. Not the look I was going for, for my first lamp shade. Back to the drawing board.
I also probably shouldn’t solder next to my pots and pans.
I know what I want to do when I grow up
June 14th, 2008This architect basically turned a family’s apartment into the Goonies.
Amazing job.
