I have a desire to make a motorized “car” that can be as flat as possible. I want it to slide under a door, flip open, and drive away. I have a very cinematic vision in mind, I see a spy, or cat burglar, or techno supervillain using it. Not that I want it to be used for nefarious purposes, it’s just something stuck in my head, so I’m going to make it.

I expect the flip up and drive mechanics to be the most challenging, so I’m starting there. I made three quick cardboard prototypes of possible flattening configurations.

I think the first one is pretty elegant, but the third option will probably be the easiest to design. So that’s where I’m going.

Little more robust proto with laser cut acrylic and hardware I had lying around.

More to come.

Milled a walnut spoon on the 4 axis. This spoon is way too thin to be much use to anyone. So thin I lost a few during the milling process.

I love how close the final pieces are to the original napkin sketches Gabe BC made. I designed and built both of these pieces a few years back, but just came across the sketches today.

I designed and fabricated the enclosure for Gabe Barcia-Colombo’s piece, Holy Roller. Multiple screens, a computer, and a slot machine handle have been tucked inside.

“The “Holy Roller” is a slot machine that uses machine learning to generate new pieces of life advice upon every pull of the handle. The piece is fed 500,000 quotes from throughout history and generates a new completely unique one for each person who pulls the lever on the machine.”

I breadboarded a potential mechanism for a project I plan on calling “Not a Horse”. The feel of it is quite nice. A half turn of the knob gives me nearly nine inches of travel.

Some new robots.

Milled a little wooden caddy. My favorite part is the cork on the bottom.

Some CNC’d, hand finished oval frames. I really like the washer system for holding the glass and pictures in place. I think there will be a lot more ovals to come.

Quick CNC’d cow piggy bank prototype. I’m thinking walnut for the final one.
