Holy Roller

Wednesday, April 27th, 2022

I designed and fabricated the enclosure for Gabe Barcia-Colombo’s piece, Holy Roller. Multiple screens, a computer, and a slot machine handle have been tucked inside.

“The “Holy Roller” is a slot machine that uses machine learning to generate new pieces of life advice upon every pull of the handle. The piece is fed 500,000 quotes from throughout history and generates a new completely unique one for each person who pulls the lever on the machine.”

What Not To Do Clock

what not to do clock

I worked on a clock project with Tom Igoe a few months ago. It was an example for a class we were teaching — he worked on the insides, I worked on the outsides. We ended up calling the project the What Not To Do Clock because of all of the missteps we made, but in the end it didn’t turn out too bad. I’m particularly happy that we made a button that “turned on/off” Daylight Savings Time.

“This project is a tabletop clock, designed as a production example for our Tangible Interaction class. We made it to demonstrate how to make a housing for an electronic device with tangible controls from a single block of wood. There are a number of mistakes we made along the way, so we’ve been lovingly referring to it as the “what not to do” clock.”

What Not To Do Clock

Pulled together a quick clock project with Tom Igoe. Tom works on the insides, I work on the outsides. We made so many bad choices along the way, we decided to call it the “What Not To Do” Clock.

Raspberry Pi Blocks for Maker Faire

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017

The Raspberry Pi Foundation put together a video of the “blocks” I built for them for Maker Faire a few months ago.

The project was a lot of fun and everybody was a delight to work with. Thanks Matt for yet another great collaboration.

The Counterpointer

Monday, July 27th, 2015

I was lucky enough to work with a great artist and friend, Luisa Pereira, on her latest project: the Counterpointer. I just made the wooden box, Weezie and Yotam did all of the rest.

“The Counterpointer is a synthesizer that generates Baroque harmonies to a melody input by the user. The one on show at Red Bull was a collaboration between Luisa Pereira and Yotam Mann.”

Bug Repller Prototype

Michelle Temple, Eric Rosenthal, and I collaborated on some sweet little bug repellers. Eric designed the circuit, Michelle made and populated the boards, and I pulled together the housings.

The housings are powder coated tins with acrylic face plates.
