I am currently selling some Jar Lamps at VOOS.
VOOS is “a condensed capsule of locally grown design produce, always fresh, packed with energy and creativity. We are located in a 1,500sf space at the heart of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. We are not a showroom, a store, a gallery or a venue. We are all the above and also a design hub, a center for events, openings and parties to launch new creations and new ideas”.
They have some amazing designs in their show room, I highly recommend stopping by.

The Secret Passageway Switch is in this year’s Apartment Therapy Design Showcase.
If you like what you see, why don’t you throw a couple of votes my way. I’ll be your best friend. You will need to sign in (if you already have an Apartment Therapy account) or register (sorry about that), but I’d really appreciate it.
There are also a bunch of other great designs this year, please check them out.

I was at the Maker Faire on Saturday and stopped by the Instructables tent. For those that don’t know, Instructables is a great site that has a bunch of crowd sourced how-to’s, a lot of great stuff. I’ve posted a few myself.
Anyway, I met Eric Wilhelm, the founder of the site. We got to talking about some of the projects I’ve posted, and it turns out one, Making Faces, was published in an ebook, Projects For Kids. In fact, it made the cover. Kind of a fun surprise.

Today is my first day of class at the NYU ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) program. I’m so excited and can’t wait to be making some cool stuff. Let the craziness begin.

Core77 (one of my favorites) featured the Secret Passageway Switch. The switch was selected as a Notable in the first ever Core77 Design Awards.
What a thrill to be mentioned in one of the best design blogs out there. So cool.

Another oak tree fell on my parent’s house (seriously this makes three now), no major structural damage, just a broken window. But their misfortune is my gain, tons of fresh wood. Giant logs, probably 3 feet in diameter. They are huge.
So I figured I’d try out something new, quarter sawn oak, on a pair of cutting boards.

Very simple and straight forward project, but I’m really happy with how they turned out. The grain is beautiful and almost no splitting or checking, rare in my experience with green oak.

I entered the Secret Passageway Switch into the first ever Core77 Design Awards, the DIY/Hack/Mod category.
Much to my surprise I was selected as a Notable! This is incredible news, I’m so excited. There were so many amazing designs, I’m proud and honored to be among them.
Here is what the jury had to say about the Secret Passageway Switch:
Who hasn’t wanted a secret room revealed by tugging on a book? We love that this keeps the fantasy alive with a slightly more achievable goal. Clever idea and great execution. As one of the judges has made several secret doors for clients, we say well done from personal experience. Perfect book title to use too.
Do yourself a favor and check out all of the the other Notables and winner and all of the other categories.

Thanks to all of the judges and Core77 for this incredible opportunity.

I love this project, Dentsu London is a creative agency that created a pair of wallpaper scissors. One half was hand crafted in the traditional way by scissor makers Ernest Wright & Son, the other was 3-D printed (with help from Jamie McClellan). The coming together of the old and the new is fantastic.
