Congrats to all of the Spring Greening Winners.
Rodrigo Jaroseski’s Phonebook Coffee Table was the grand prize winner. Kumvana Gomani got second for Recycled Plastic Jewelry. And my personal favorite, Richard Jennions’s Book Book Shelf, got third place.
This was a fun little contest. Thanks Inhabitat for putting it together.
The lake my parents live on has recently been drained. Some sort of algae issue. The lake is man-made and was originally used for ice harvesting. It was amazing to see all of the stumps and logs that have been submerged for the past 100 years.
So I grabbed a couple of lake logs. I’ve read about reclaimed logs, and it’s definitely something I wanted to work with.
I took a first pass at turning a lamp and a bowl. The wood acted like freshly cut green logs. It was very easy to work with.
I’m having trouble identifying the wood species of the logs. The wood (I assume) has been discolored from the lake water, and they smell pretty funky. But what do you expect from wood that’s over a hundred years old?
My Vacuum Lamp was selected as a finalist in Inhabitat’s Spring Greening contest.
Take a look at all of the finalists, there is some great stuff there. And if you like what you see, please vote.
Wednesday: Design Within Reach Champagne Chair Contest
Friday: Mobile Homes in the Hue Are You? show
Tuesday: Rubber Origami Birds mentioned on Apartment Therapy
I take classes from time to time. Usually things I don’t have enough room in my apartment for: pottery, sculpture, wood turning. But it’s almost always something that I can already sort of do. Something I know I’m already going to be at least competent at.
Well I’m taking a water color painting class at the Y right now, and it is kicking my butt. I can’t believe I thought this would be easy.
We’re painting nudes tonight, I’m still struggling with bowls of fruit.
March 20th 2009 opening night for Hue Are You? at the Future Perfect. It was a great night with a lot of fantastic pieces.
The American Design Club put on a great show, and I’m very proud to be a small part of it.
I went to the DWR Champagne Cork Chair show on Wednesday in SoHo. It was really cool, and hey free booze. My chair was placed closest to the front door, so it was the first thing you saw. Very cool.
I met Tony Nemyer’s (the staff pick winner) father-in-law at the show. Very nice guy. He got Tony on the phone and my sister (who had a couple of glasses of champagne) proceeded to chat to him for some time. Open bar.
I recently got this table mounted wire bender to make the Mobile Home wires a bit more polished.
The tool is designed to make fly fishing lures, but it works pretty well for mobile wires too.
