Been experimenting with milled acrylic inlay. I CNC the acrylic parts, use acrylic weld to attach the parts (I used a lot), let it dry then sand up to 400 grit, and finally polish with wax on a buffing wheel. The parts came out pretty seamless and the waxing wheel knocks all of the hard edges off. I really like the look and feel of this process.

I built a project for the newly rebranded Bantam Tools. The Magnet Clock is a kinetic sculpture built using magnets, a clock mechanism, and some milled parts.

I love when you can go from quick sketch to finished part in just a few hours. This milled delrin piece was originally intended to hold 1″ diameter PVC pipes in bundles of 5. But it became an interesting wheel as well. Just need to create new kinds of roads.
I’ve been messing around with examples of simple CAD that can get you up and running on a CNC quickly. This is just a series of cones that have been pasted in a circular pattern, copied, flipped, and then all joined together.
I really liked the form, and it worked well with the 4 axis mill.
Been milling some wooden Voltron parts, the Blue Lion to be exact. Showing some students how to use the 4 axis mill. Using the fantastic files from Jurica Pranjic.
I had an old Shapeoko 2 in my shop that I never really finished assembling. I had the idea to create configurable stoppers so I could perform straightforward cuts, think Etch-a-Sketch with a router.
I removed all of the motors, belts, and electronics. Bought some knobs, a shaft coupler, and milled a few custom delrin parts. And then took it for a test drive.
I was very pleased with the results. The cuts is a bit choppy because I didn’t lock the 2×4 down too well, but for a first cut, not bad. I think I might use this for planing oddly shaped lumber, making rectangular voids in material, and creating simple slots.
Just milled a cam shaft out of delrin. Been meaning to make this part for some time now.
Also been doing some experiments with some milled plywood. More to come.
Doing a little holiday making at the moment and whipped up these CNC’d toy trucks. Very similar in style and technique to some cars I did a while back.
The weird thing, I was basically doing exactly what Hermey the dentist elf was doing in Rudolph.
