Finally, finished an idea I’ve had kicking around for a little while. I vacuum formed some styrene over a stepper motor circuit board, to be a quick custom project enclosure.

I formed it directly over the circuit board. After a little trimming and sanding, the cover fits great.

As a kid, I was really into electronics. I built tons of circuits (none of them ever really worked), then got away from it. Recently I started building them again.

Simple circuits housed inside of two laser cut acrylic panels with standoffs, I like the way these are looking.

Laser etching the circuit diagram on the back of the panel will probably be very useful in the future.

What I’ve been up to

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

For the last couple of months I’ve been going to grad school, NYU’s ITP program to be exact. This place is fantastic. Meeting amazing people and seeing incredible things. The output of this joint is ridiculous.

All of our ITP work is kept in blog form (you can see a link to mine under the copyright on the left, or juyt click here), the content isn’t for everybody — kind of technical. But I thought I’d show some highlights over the next few days.

Our first Physical Computing project is lovingly referred to as a Stupid Pet Trick. It’s purpose is to prove that you understand the basics of electronics, sensors, and microcontrollers. Basically, make things move and LED’s blink, I went a little literal with the whole blinking LED’s.

LED Star Light Mini

Monday, March 29th, 2010

I’ve been working on a prototype for an LED Star Light Mini. There is a magnet on the back, lights turn on and off when spun around. I want to cover a whole wall with these and have people interact with them.

Some pics below of the build process.
