I’ve been working on some dials that go to 11, and I figured I would try electroetching a set. I basically followed this Instructable to the letter. Thanks Switch and Lever.
The stainless steel washer etched really nicely, and polished pretty well too. The galvanized, not so much. Fun to experiment with it though.

When you need that extra push over the cliff.

Just messing around with some potentiometers, some washers, some appliance paint, and a laser cutter.

I’ve been mocking up some more Robot Recipe robot bodies. Both body cans are from coffee, one big, one small. And the arms are drawer pulls, one set big, one small.

I think the bigger robot is looking right (no idea how I’m going to fit it in the powder coating oven), but I’m not crazy about the other one. Something is not right. But I do like the head. The potentiometer eyes are a bit creepy.

The latest Robot Recipe toy I’m working on. This one came from a chili dinner, so I creatively call it Chili Bot.

One of my new obsessions is powder coating. So far, everything I know about it came from this Make Magazine article. (thanks John).
It gives metal parts an amazing automotive like finish. First clean the parts, spray them with powder, then bake em. That easy.

Gabe Barcia-Colombo presented his DNA Vending Machine at TED recently. I had the pleasure to fabricate the DNA cases.
Great job Gabe.

Apartment Therapy ran another video, this one on applying a milk paint finish. I’m pretty new to milk paint, but it’s kind of hard to screw up. You paint it on, you sand it off. The trick is to keep working it till you get your desired finish.

I fabricated the Dancer Pepper Mill prototype for Frank Benson. It was made from a material called colorply that I loved working with.

Complex has a great write up of it:
“The Dancer Salt and Pepper mills are made of an imported composite wood which was used to create the bar for CafĂ© Dancer in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The mouthwatering red, white, and green caprese salad colors intrinsic to the material will enliven any table with a festive and puzzling air while providing freshly ground seasoning for every meal.”
