Finally got to the electronics part of the project. LED eyes.

Also named the guy, C.A.N. Bot. I have no idea what C.A.N. stands for yet though.

Paint job! Powder coated a nice candy red.

Also put together an acrylic chest plate.

Got the head mechanism working and some other small odds and ends. Gettin there.

I’m putting together a toy robot this week, hopefully a certain 4 year old will like it.

Coffee can, chili peppers can, light fixture odds and ends, bolts, and a toggle switch. The robot is taking shape.

All of the controls will be on the back. Illuminated switches and buttons are fun, but my favorite part is a timer switch I pulled from a broken toaster oven.

Bird on a Wire will be on display at the DUMBO Art Festival.

I was incredibly lucky to get a bunch of wood from Highbridge Park. The trees fell naturally and were destined to become mulch. Thank you Jordan.

Starting to make some lamps from it. Poplar and possibly oak I think.

Really love the look of laser etched powder coating. The letters are so crisp.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of speaking at Sketching in Hardware. Sketching is a small conference where all who attend present. Most talks are on interesting hardware projects or research that may lead to the next big thing. I was very inspired and can’t wait to get back to work.

M Booth has a monthly newsletter called “word.”, and this month was all recorded with Google Glass. I was fortunate enough to have Lauren and Andrew drop by the new studio and shoot a piece about making and designing.
