I’m very honored that my concept, Robot Ambulance, has been accepted into Make: Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge.
Robot Ambulance is a toy robot fabrication lab on wheels. The goal of the project is to drive to schools, Maker Faires, or birthday parties and get kids making. More project details here.
Voting started today to decide the winners of the contest. Judging is based on overall Design, unique Customizations, and Maker Spirit embedded within. Vote for as few or as many entries once per day as you wish.
Thanks to Matt Richardson for the video help and Michelle Temple for the photographs.
This past Thursday I presented the Belly Button Book at the L2 Forum.
I had a great time, Scott Galloway and his son were great sports.
This “flashlight” is the oldest thing I have that I made.
I made it for my grandma when I was around 10 years old. A couple of C batteries, some electrical tape, a button, and an old Christmas light.
Grandma mentioned she needed a small flashlight when using her house keys at night. I said “Don’t buy one, I’ll make you one Grandma”. So I Frankensteined this together with parts I’d been collecting and storing under my bed. And God bless her, she used it.
Fast forward 20 some years later, after grandma passed, I found it in her nightstand drawer. She kept it all those years. It kind of broke my heart a little.
I really love how this back plate turned out for an enclosure I built for Gabe Barcia-Colombo. It looks like a face, just saying.
On November 7th, I will be reading The Belly Button Book at the 2013 L2 Forum.
‘The Belly Button’ is an interactive children’s book and set of wireless toys, which I am very excited to debut at the conference.
Below is a short video of some fun user testing.
I’m excited to announce that Crate & Barrel has produced some Christmas ornament designs of mine, Turned Wooden Ornaments and Wood Grain House Ornaments.
The turned ornaments are available in stores now. And I may or may not have already bought a box or two.
The house ornaments will be available in stores soon and 100% of the proceeds from them will be donated to Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit that rehabilitates homes for low-income homeowners at no cost, particularly the elderly and those with disabilities.
The packaging is pretty sweet too.
I will be speaking at the next Apartment Therapy Design Evenings.
Illustrator Dana Tanamachi and clutter cowgirl Jeni Aron will also be speaking.
October 30th at 7, Tribeca Cinemas, 54 Varick Street.

A few weeks ago the Macallan unveiled the Macallan M Decanter. I was asked to modify a “used” Scotch cask into a lamp to serve as a display for the decanter.
It was a fun job and the cask smelled amazing, especially when I finally broke inside. I call it the Macallan Cask Light.
