Instructables recently published a book called How to Do Absolutely Everything. An Instructable I posted a few years ago, Gift Box from a Cereal Box, was uncluded. Page 290.

It’s very cool to have something published.

Michale Colombo from Make Magazine posted a video demo of me making a mallet for Workshop Wednesdays.

I apologize for the beard, I’m in a contest.
Thanks to Mark Kleback for the video assist.

Another case build for the video artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo. This time for his piece A Point Just Passed.
In Gabe’s words: “A time card punch clock with a video person projected into a dome on top. As the viewer punches the time cards, the person gets older based on time punch increments. At the last punch the dome goes dark and is not to be reset until the next day. Viewers virtually erase the youth of the person through the passage of time. With each punch the memory of one’s childhood is further erased from the dome. It is possible that some viewers may never experience the full length of the piece.”

I figured it was a motor of some kind, but it’s actually a pretty elegant design using an electromagnet and a magnet on an axle. The more I look at it, the more I like the natural motion the arm simulates.

I recently built a crank with wooden case for the video artist Gabe Barcia-Colombo. It is for his piece For Those Who Wait.
In his words: “”For Those Who Wait” is an interactive video sculpture about the physicality of time. 10 video projected clocks hang motionless in a room. As the viewer winds up a crank the clocks come to life, their hands spinning out of control until they self destruct in a variety of animations.”
Turning the crank and controlling the projected clocks is very satisfying.

555 Dimmer
As a kid, I was really into electronics. I built tons of circuits (none of them ever really worked), then got away from it. Recently I started building them again.
Simple circuits housed inside of two laser cut acrylic panels with standoffs, I like the way these are looking.

Mic Amp
Laser etching the circuit diagram on the back of the panel will probably be very useful in the future.

A foosball player broke on the ITP table. Figured I’d make something special for my second 4 in 4 project, a player made from walnut.

For my first 4 in 4 project I decided to make some small chair models for the Design Within Reach Champagne Cork Chair Contest. One was made from the wire cage and two caps.

For the other, I ground up two corks, glued it back together into a blank with wood glue, let it dry, then turned it on the lathe. It made the seat for a small stool.

Hot off the presses. For a short run of Mobile Homes I’m doing something a little special for the packaging. The layout of the mobile graphic will be unique for each package, the intention is to simulate movement of the mobile. I hope people who buy it will keep the label as a piece of generative art.
