On December 10th I’m going to be showing how to make Star Light Minis. Basically, the same thing as the original Star Lights, only smaller (duh). And these are lit by Christmas lights. If you’ve got nothing to do on the 10th (and you have $10), come on by, starts at 6.
A little more info:
Join MAD in the Open Studios for a night of hands-on art making, music, food, and drink in celebration of the Museum’s current exhibition Slash: Paper Under the Knife. Local do-it-yourself artists will demonstrate their personal skills and help guide you in creating your own paper-based projects. Techniques will range from book-making to jewelry-making, among other cut paper projects. In addition to do-it-yourself workshops, the DIY Salon will include drinks, snacks, and a live DJ. Guided tours of Slash will be available. Over 200 people did-it-themselves at this event last year, so don’t miss out this time around!
Guest artists inlcude:

I have always wanted nunchucks (or nunchaku), but I would probably hurt myself seriously if I had the real deal. So I made some using paper towel tubes and some rubber coated caps. Not exactly a perfect example of green design, but it might come in handy for this.
Some pics below of the build process.

I have some very exciting news, I have two pieces in a show that is in a real live museum. Finn’s Army and Making Faces both got into the Toying with Art show at the Cameron Art Museum. The museum is in Wilmington, NC, and runs from November 13th to March 28.
Toying with Art is an exhibition of toys designed and fabricated by artists. More than 50 artists from around the country have created toys in a wide variety of sizes, themes and styles for this exhibition. Running through the holidays, Toying with Art is sure to be fun for kids of all ages.
There are some incredible artists involved and I am very flattered and humbled to be included.
This year for Halloween I went as a Showcase contestant on the Price Is Right. I built a cardboard podium that lit up with “OVER” and “1″ (always wanted to bid one dollar on the PIR).
Thanks to Kendall Mills for making the video. It shows all of the hard work that went into a great show.
Around the 1 minute mark you can see them set up my mobile on the right side of the screen. And just because I’m really narcissistic, around 1:26 you can see me stand by it while my picture gets taken.
My sister had a baby last week and it’s a boy! So of course I made him wooden egg shaped Weeble Wobble like creatures. Why, what do you make newborn babies?
They wobble fine, still working on the not falling down part.
Kiel set me up with a sweet location. The mobile was hanging over a fantastic table and bench from Bear and Lion. They make some fantastic furniture.
It was an incredible show. There was a piece by Yoko Ono, a Chuck Close spotting, live graffiti under the High Line, free booze. It was fantastic. Open till Oct. 17th, check it out if you can.
So I was hoping I’d be able to show off the Tagged Mobile Homes someday, I just didn’t know it would happen this quickly. The mobile will be showing at The Drop on Oct. 3rd to Oct 17th. It looks like it’s going to be a great time.
Again I want to thank everyone who helped with this one.
