Duality: The Connected Change Dish
Tuesday, September 9th, 2014Matt Richardson and I worked together on a project called Duality for Intel and Mashable. Mashable paired creators, equipped them with Intel-powered devices and gave them 16 days to build something special. We created an internet-connected change dish.
The dish can alert users with a subtle signal that you can program with a reminder for when you’re on the way out the door or just coming home.
It was a quick deadline, but a great project to work on. Thanks Matt, Lauren, Tony, and the rest of the film crew.

Back Plate
Friday, October 18th, 2013I really love how this back plate turned out for an enclosure I built for Gabe Barcia-Colombo. It looks like a face, just saying.
Bug Repellers
Friday, June 28th, 2013Michelle Temple, Eric Rosenthal, and I collaborated on some sweet little bug repellers. Eric designed the circuit, Michelle made and populated the boards, and I pulled together the housings.
The housings are powder coated tins with acrylic face plates.
MAKEing Mallets
Wednesday, March 6th, 2013Michale Colombo from Make Magazine posted a video demo of me making a mallet for Workshop Wednesdays.
I apologize for the beard, I’m in a contest.
Thanks to Mark Kleback for the video assist.
Mobile Homes Packaging
Monday, January 14th, 2013Hot off the presses. For a short run of Mobile Homes I’m doing something a little special for the packaging. The layout of the mobile graphic will be unique for each package, the intention is to simulate movement of the mobile. I hope people who buy it will keep the label as a piece of generative art.
CNC’d Toolbox
Thursday, January 10th, 2013I built a CNC’d old-timey looking toolbox a little while back. It’s very straight forward, built from 1/2″ plywood, a 1 1/4″ diameter dowel, and some 1/4″ dowel pegs. It’s stackable so ii works out well if you want to have a couple of these for specific jobs or tasks.
If you have access to a CNC and would like to make your own, the files are here:

Check N’ Chew

CheckNChewShort from Tyler DeAngelo on Vimeo.
Check ‘N Chew is a really fun project I’ve been working on with Matt Richardson and Tyler DeAngelo. Basically, when you check into Foursquare you get a gumball.
I’ve learned that an off-the-shelf gumball machines are a bit flaky and gumballs do not come in a standard size, but the project turned out great and working with these guys has been a dream. We even got the machine covered by Engadget.
Spoil Board Tiles
Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012A spoil board is sacrificial material that’s used underneath the material you want to cut on a CNC machine. This ensures a better through cut and is usually MDF. I’ve noticed that when the spoil boards are all used up at ITP, some really amazing patterns are formed.
I cut a bunch of them into tiles, lit, and framed them. They let me hang them over the CNC in the shop. I like how they turned out.
Tornado Alley
Monday, May 14th, 2012Tornado Alley is a kinetic sculpture, small wooden houses spin like mad when you blow on a small fan. The harder you blow, the faster they spin. The piece is fun to interact with.
The houses may look a little familiar.
