I’m very happy with the model citizens show. It turned out great. The opening reception was a lot of fun. I met some great designers. Mika, the organizer, is so nice. I think all the hard work paid off. Last day to check it out.
About an hour before the model citizens reception started, Table Fights took place out front (in view of the Javits Center no less). Basically, it’s robot wars only the robots are tables. There’s a ring, an announcer, and table carnage. It’s fantastic.
They are going to be having another event in the Boston area June 19th. If you can, you should check it out.
One more day left for the model citizens show. I met so many great designers and artists. There work is incredible, I was honored to be among them. I’m still trying to digest everything, but here are some shots of what is being shown.
The very talented BDan designed this great label for Finn’s Army (cough, going to be sold at the model citizens nyc show, cough, cough).
I love the look of this.
I will be showing some pieces at model citizen nyc this Design Week. A bunch of new lamps, Monster Mirrors, Finn’s Army, Mobile Homes, and Rubber Origami Mobiles. There will also be a general store and a ton of great work to buy. I’m very excited to be showing among so many great designers and artists. If you are in the city, please come on by.
Opening night reception on May 15th 5-8PM.
531 West 36th St., 2nd Fl
(between 10th and 11th Ave)
I’ve been trying to perfect wine bottle cutting, so I could use the glass tube for a lamp shade. Finally got some good results. I turned pieces of a wooden pallet (maple I think) found on 89th St, for the base and cap. The lamp socket comes from a junked floor lamp (also found on 89th St). White wine gives more light, but I’ll probably go red next time for more mood.
Recently, I started selling some work through an online store, Greenpoint Originals. It’s a new store featuring hand-picked work from artists and designers from around the Greenpoint Brooklyn area. I am very lucky and humbled to be among them.
Please, take a look.
So I tried cutting a wine bottle for the first time. Not a lot of success.
I believe it had nothing to do with the technique I saw on Make, but with my scoring. I need some practice, but I stand by the idea of this making a decent lamp shade.
Melissa McElroy is a designer, artists, founder of Greenpoint Originals. She and I have somethings brewing, more on that later. The clip below is an interview CNN did with Melissa on freelancing. She comes on around the 1:11 mark. Take a look at those candelsticks she photographing. Look famlilar?
